A Fine Line

It is a fine line between visiting your doctor too often and not visiting him enough. Although you do not have to pay to see the doctor, it is, of course, unwise to visit too often as this is a drain on resources and makes the waiting list longer for other people, even with locum insurance cover.

Doctors are usually busy enough as it is and they do not want people turning up as soon as they have the slightest whiff of a cold or an ache or pain that has just appeared.

Many people assume that as healthcare is free they should get the most out of the system but it is precisely this that makes the system work slower and less effectively.

And yet if you are worried about your health it is vital that you do visit the doctor especially if the symptoms are not going away. It is easy to dismiss certain signs because you are inwardly worried about going to the doctor and if certain diseases are not treated at an early stage then it can be much harder or impossible to treat them.

Understand the symptoms of the most common illnesses for yourself and your family and be vigilant. Use your common sense when visiting the doctor and go if need be, but not for trivialities, otherwise you could be taking precious care away from another person.
